For the majority of homeowners and landlords, you can receive vouchers worth the value of up to £5,000 to spend on your green home improvements. If your household is on a lower income, you can receive vouchers that cover your entire costs of up to £10,000.
There are two main categories of green home improvements that homeowners can apply for funding for, primary and secondary. Primary improvements are the larger and more expensive matters like adding wall, loft or roof insulation.
Secondary improvements to improve the efficiency of your home include the installation of double-glazed windows, draught-proofing your home or adding smart thermostat controls to your existing heating system.
Anyone who owns a home that is in need of improvements to improve efficiency is eligible to apply, whether you live in your home yourself or are a landlord. In other words, if you’re new on the property ladder and have just moved into a new-build home, you won’t be able to apply as newer homes are built with key energy-efficient elements in mind.
Before applying for any vouchers through the scheme, it’s best to consult with Eco Green Grants to identify which areas of your home are letting you down when it comes to efficiency. Then, we can appoint accredited builders and tradespeople for you to submit your quote in exchange for the necessary government funding.
The reasons for the launch are two-fold – to help households save money on their energy bills and also protect and create ‘green jobs’ in the installation and supply chain.
The scheme appears to be a more straightforward version of the Green Deal, which also offered grants to cover the cost of energy efficiency measures, but required a Green Deal Advisor or Assessor to carry out a Green Deal assessment on the property.
The Green Home Grant, on the other hand, is a simple voucher scheme which goes through an accredited supplier, which is a lot simpler and more targeted than the old Green Deal loan system, which required some complex documentation.
If you meet the eligibility criteria and your home is in need of energy efficiency improvements, then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t sign up to the scheme.
Making your home more energy efficient means you’ll use less energy to heat it, which could cut your annual energy bills by as much as £600 a year, according to government estimates. These home improvements will also reduce the amount of energy lost through walls, roofs and windows, lowering your carbon footprint.
The ECO Government Grant Covers the cost of supplying and Installing a First Time Central Heating System. If you are in receipt of Benefits including Child Benefit or have a low income you will qualify.
Yes! It has now been confirmed that double glazing, triple glazing, and secondary glazing are measures included within the scheme.
Homeowners can only use the grant for these measures if upgrading from single glazing and if they are having one or more of the primary measures installed, as long as the cost of the double glazing does not exceed the cost of the primary measure.
If you already have the above energy saving measures in your home, you might be wondering if you’re still eligible to use the grant.
This grant only covers new windows or doors if you have single glazing. It will not cover upgrading from double glazing to a more energy efficient double glazing.
The Green Homes Grant scheme is due to end in March 2021. It will run for a total of six months, from September 2020 to March 2021.
